Lievland Vineyards
Stellenbosch. STH AFRICA
Lievland, (directly translated, means ‘love land’ in Afrikaans) lies at the northern end of Stellenbosch along what is referred to as the ‘Simonsberg Golden Mile”. It’s rich history, dating back to 1865, includes the legendary baroness from Latvia, a widow with 5 children, who famously plowed the vineyards with a horse, and the visionary woman who was the first to barrel-ferment Chenin Blanc long before it became standard practice. Lievland was purchased by José Conde and Tyrrel Myburgh in 2017 with the dream of restoring it’s reputation as one of South Africa’s greatest wine estates. The quality of the current wines suggest they are well on their way to achieving their goal.
