Maison Brotte
Rhone Valley, FRANCE
Maison Brotte was created in Chateauneuf-du-Pape in 1931 by Charles Brotte. Today, three generations of the Brotte family still work the business as the company goes from strength to strength. The Legend of the Fiole dates back to 1952 during a meeting between Brotte and a renowned glass artist from the region. Together they came up with a bottle with a twisted shape, reminiscent of old Grenache vines bent by the Mistral (wind). Much more than a simple bottle, it became the ideal container for a great Châteauneuf du Pape wine. As a nod to his wife, Charles, then a young wine negociant, named this bottle after his father-in-law, Le Pere Anselme, a beloved and benevolent figure in the village. With its particular shape, La Fiole has become an icon now found in more than 120 countries around the world. The flagship, La Fiole du Pape, has been a unique and timeless blend of Grenache and Syrah since 1952.
